Today we met a friend from back in our hackney days and her son. c was in my nct friend and bun clicked with her son l from as soon as it is possible for 2 kids to play, before really. they were born a day apart and it has been fascinating watching the different growing paths boys and girls take. l has always been very physical and quick to anger, there have been periods where i have restricted bun seeing l because she just seemed to spend most of her time being pummelled, with little interference from c, a quickfire way to end both friendships, so we just kept our distance. but things seem much better now and the kids have missed each other so it was good to meet up and lovely to see how quickly they were once again thick as thieves. c's and my friendship is a little more complex but to be saved for another time.
we met at the science museum, first time i have been post bun and it is a mecca for kids. we were there 4 hours and barely touched all it has to offer. but with promises of meeting up soon we had to go and meet a and baby to do battle over the phone at carphone warehouse which ended in failure for us and success for carphone warehouse. a miserable situation compounded by a blame apportioning row in the foodcourt of wholefoods. whoevers fault it may be it (a's) it looks like rather than an iphone i am stuck with a fairly basic nokia for the next 2 years. 2 years! when did phone contracts take on such epic proportions.
back home now, kids in bed, glass of wine, roast chicken in oven, and last nights silent witness on the planner. a trying to do some more sorting out in the study. a saturday night that forces me to realise my age and situation.
last night was however more fun, a night out for a and i with my mum babysitting which always takes the pressure off the babysitter dilemma of stay out longer to make it worth having got a babysitter in the first place or go home earlier to make it cheaper. as mum was staying the night anyway we could play the night exactly as we pleased. well kind of. post wedding budget allowing. not sure my perfect night would involve a 2 courses and a glass of wine for £15.00 deal at quaglino's taken at 5.30pm and us the only diners in that cavernous dated alter to the early 90's. in hindsight we would have been better off in a buzzy pizza express, although a and i amused ourselves naming out early 90's celebs who would have been rocking it back in the day. we then thoroughly enjoyed our frugal - post wedding joint birthday present to ourselves, tickets for cat on a hot tin roof at the novello, fabulous and james earl jones just lit up the stage. its an all black cast, a fact you forget within about five minutes of it starting but interestingly the audience was probaby 30% black. i can understand that it must feel special and good to see yourself represented on the stage, not in 'black' roles but just as great actors and i wished bun was old enough to see it. a cosmopolitan at one aldwych wrapped up a lovely night, my first proper night out with my husband and it did seem somehow more special for that.
